Having worked with the British Triathlon Federation over a number of years, Taylor Made Event Management were asked in Autumn 2016 to head up the operational and technical delivery of the World Triathlon Series event in Leeds, June 2017. After 2 very successful years in 2017, we were again asked to deliver the event in June 2019.
2020 was a year for the events industry to forget with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the event bounced back in style in 2021 with strict COVID mitigation measures.
We designed all of the race routes in collaboration with the ITU and Leeds Highways and announced them on a ‘Brownlee Bus Tour’ with Alastair and Jonny early in 2017, with a large media presence and BBC Sport covering live.

A 9 month planning process took place for both years, with Taylor Made Event Management heading up the recruitment of event staff, putting together the operational delivery budget, working with the ITU, British Triathlon, with Leeds Council, with Emergency Services and with all other stakeholders to ensure that a suitable event template was workable.
Taylor Made Event Management put together detailed Event Management and Safety Plans, working with Leeds Safety Advisory Group and key members of Leeds Council and Emergency Planning to ensure a suitable C3 plan was in place and appropriate mitigation’s and resilience to event risks.
We put together all aspects of the technical route and venue plans, appointing and working with contractors to put together detailed build schedules, traffic management plans, water safety plans and crowd management plans.
We worked with the BBC and the appointed TV production company to provide all technical requirements for the live TV broadcast.
In addition to the elite races, more than 3,000 amateur athletes participated in a variety of distances, including the British Triathlon Championships for Olympic Distance. We helped British Triathlon manage all aspects of the communication process with the Age Group participants and maximise their overall experience as well as leading on the delivery of all aspects of the Age Group races.
We coordinated all medical and anti doping requirements, appointing the medical director and designing the medical plan collaboratively.
We designed the sports presentation package, recruited sports presentation staff and announcers, created scripts and provided all technical requirements.
On both event weekends, Managing Director Andrew Taylor was the overall operational lead, overseeing all event, route, venue, safety, contingency aspects of the event and being the overall event control lead.
