In 2019, we were contracted as event consultants on the UCI World Road Championships in Yorkshire. The event was unparalleled in terms of its complexity, with different start locations on each of the 9 days of competition, as well as a central hub in Harrogate including a Fan Zone which hosted a programme of concerts, opening and closing ceremonies as well as extensive sponsor and partner activation. We worked as Yorkshire 2019 Silver in the multi agency Event Control room co-ordinating all agencies and emergency services under extremely challenging weather conditions which brought into play several contingency plans.
“We worked with Andrew from Taylor Made Event Management in the planning and delivery phases of the UCI World Road Cycling Championships in Yorkshire in 2019. Initially, Andrew helped with the planning of the Para Cycling event, providing a draft budget for the event, a detailed report and a series of venue plans for the 3 start locations. During the delivery phase, Andrew came on board as part of the C3 team to cover myself as Yorkshire 2019 Silver in the multi-agency event control when I was not on shift. With 9 days of competition as well a series of evening fanzone entertainment sessions, we decided to bring in an experienced major events professional with experience of overseeing complex multi agency control rooms in order to share the burden of the long hours and offer a fresh perspective of our plans. Andrew was a confident presence, leading daily morning briefings, end of day de-briefs and hourly event control huddles as well as a number of ad-hoc break out sessions with various agencies where required to resolve arising issues which could not be resolved on the ground. The event was a challenging one, with many contingencies needing to be initiated due to an unusually high level of rainfall having an enormous impact on the race routes and the venues. We relied heavily on a strong core team to work closely for long hours in order to ensure the event was delivered safely and successfully. Andrew was a key part of this team operating in a senior capacity and we were extremely happy we had somebody of his calibre working with us under such circumstances.
